  • Nadeau brings a wealth of experience from Michigan State, the Chicago Bulls, and Virginia Tech.
  • His expertise in scouting, player development, and game preparation is expected to boost the Monarchs’ performance.

From Michigan State to Old Dominion

Old Dominion men’s basketball head coach Mike Jones has announced the hiring of Ryan Nadeau as an assistant coach. Jones is thrilled about the new addition, stating, “Ryan comes to our program with a wealth of experience and knowledge. From his time with Michigan State to his time with the Chicago Bulls, and the last few years at Virginia Tech, Ryan has been a part of winning basketball at the highest levels. His ability and expertise spreads across every facet of a program.”

A Proven Track Record

Nadeau joins the Monarchs after a six-year stint on the staff at Virginia Tech. His responsibilities in Blacksburg included creating scouting reports, assisting in on-campus recruiting, and overseeing the student manager program. Notably, he also played a significant role in how players used technology for film analysis and scheduling, as well as creating specific individual programs for them.

A Winning Culture

During his tenure at Virginia Tech, the Hokies made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 spot in 2019. Jones believes Nadeau’s connections and expertise will be valuable to the Monarchs’ recruiting efforts. “Ryan hails from the talent-rich Detroit area and his connections there and through the Midwest will be very valuable to our recruiting efforts. Skill development and game preparation are areas that he excels. In terms of establishing a winning culture, it does not get better that Coach Nadeau,” Jones added.

A Stint with the Bulls

Before joining Virginia Tech, Nadeau served as a Basketball Operations Associate for two years with the Chicago Bulls. He worked closely with the coaches, providing assistance with video breakdown, scouting reports, and player development by tailoring workouts to specific players.

The Journey Begins

Nadeau, a Michigan State graduate, was a student manager for the men’s basketball team where he worked closely with video breakdown and assisted the coaching staff with numerous other duties. His journey from student manager to assistant coach at Old Dominion is a testament to his dedication and expertise in the sport.

Nadeau’s arrival at Old Dominion is a promising development for the Monarchs. His vast experience and proven track record in developing winning teams make him a valuable addition to the coaching staff. As the new season approaches, the Monarchs are looking forward to a successful run with Nadeau on their side.
