Blanchfield and Hickey Set to Represent Australia
The basketball court is set to heat up as Illawarra’s own Todd Blanchfield and William Hickey gear up to represent Australia in the 3×3 Asian Cup. The tournament, slated for March 27-31 in Singapore, isn’t just about the glory; it’s a crucial preparation ground for the Olympic qualifiers due in May.
A Look Back at the Gangurrus’ Success
Blanchfield isn’t new to the pressure and thrill of the tournament. He was part of the Gangurrus team that clinched a silver medal in the 2023 edition. Sharing the court with him were Adelaide 36ers legend Daniel Johnson, former NBL champion Lucas Walker, and Andrew Steel. Despite their commendable performance, Australia fell to Mongolia in the final.
The Squad Heads to Singapore
Blanchfield and Hickey will be joined in Singapore by the Centre of Excellence duo Josh Davey and James O’Connell. The team’s combination of seasoned players and fresh talent sets the stage for an exciting tournament.
Women’s Team Eyes Another Gold
On the women’s side, Anneli Maley, Lauren Mansfield, Alex Wilson, and Marena Whittle will be donning the green and gold. Following their triumphant gold medal win in 2023, the team is determined to replicate their success and bring home another victory.
