Cairns Taipans Eyeing High-Level Talents for NBL25 Season

  • Cairns Taipans considering bringing back former fan favourite DJ Hogg
  • Adelaide’s Kyrin Galloway is a potential signing, despite competition from other Queensland teams
  • Bul Kuol is likely to leave the Taipans, with Sydney Kings and South East Melbourne Phoenix showing strong interest

Taipans’ Potential Roster Shakeup

The Cairns Taipans are gearing up for what looks like a major off-season roster overhaul. ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reports that the Far North club has shown significant interest in two high-level talents, one of whom is a familiar face to fans.

The roster changes come on the heels of Sam Mennenga’s departure to New Zealand. However, coach Adam Forde might have a trick up his sleeve: bringing back a former fan favourite to help the team reach the post-season in NBL25.

Possible Return of DJ Hogg

DJ Hogg, who earned an All-NBL Second Team nomination during his single season with the Taipans, could be making a comeback. Despite shoulder injuries restricting him to just 16 games this season with the Kings, Hogg was a crucial part of Forde’s side that achieved a fourth-placed regular season finish.

“I heard a whisper the Cairns Taipans have internally had a thought about bringing DJ Hogg back into the mix,” Uluc revealed on NBL Overtime. However, with the Kings’ recent signing of Xavier Cooks, it seems unlikely that they could accommodate both Cooks and Hogg.

Kyrin Galloway in the Mix

The Taipans are reportedly leading the race to sign Kyrin Galloway, one of Adelaide’s most improved players under coach Scott Ninnis. “Kyrin Galloway, we saw the way he ended the season with the Adelaide 36ers, and you can see what he can bring to teams, the athleticism, the jump shot,” Uluc commented.

While Adelaide is keen to retain Galloway, he seems to be considering other options, with the two Queensland teams showing the most interest.

Bul Kuol Likely to Depart

However, it’s not all good news for Cairns. Bul Kuol, one of the top free agents on the market, has informed the Taipans he won’t be returning. “My feel is that it’ll come down to the Kings and the Phoenix,” Uluc said.

Stay tuned for more updates as the NBL free agency period begins no later than two weeks following the final game of the Championship Series. Game 4 between Melbourne and Tasmania will tip off on Thursday night at 7:30pm AEDT, live on ESPN via Kayo.
