THREE POINTER:

  • Karim Lopez impresses in NBA debut against Utah Jazz
  • Multiple Next Stars excel in NBL Round 3 performances
  • Young talents showcase skills across NBL and NBA platforms

The NBL25’s Next Stars program continues to produce exceptional talent, with several young players making waves both in the NBL and on NBA courts. Let’s dive into the recent standout performances that are turning heads in the basketball world.

Lopez Makes Splash in NBA Debut

In the first of three NBLxNBA games, Karim Lopez stepped onto an NBA court for the first time, facing off against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. The young star looked right at home from the opening whistle, finishing as the Breakers’ second-leading scorer with 13 points and topping the team’s rebounding charts with 7 boards. Lopez’s natural instincts and skill set were on full display, promising exciting matchups ahead against the Philadelphia 76ers (October 8) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (October 11).

NBL Round 3 Highlights

The domestic competition saw its fair share of Next Stars brilliance as well. Malique Lewis of South East Melbourne Phoenix made every minute count, dropping 14 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in just 14 minutes of play against the Adelaide 36ers.

Sydney Kings’ Alex Toohey continued his impressive form, contributing 11 points in 26 minutes of court time during a dominant win over Brisbane. Toohey’s sharpshooting has been a highlight, maintaining a 44% accuracy from beyond the arc this season.

Despite Brisbane’s loss to the Kings, Rocco Zikarsky’s efficiency shone through with a +17 plus-minus. Zikarsky currently leads the league in points per game (per 36 minutes) and offensive rebound percentage, solidifying his value to the Bullets.

Perth Wildcats’ Izan Almansa, while facing tough competition against last season’s Grand Finalists, continued to demonstrate his high basketball IQ and energy, even if his shooting touch wasn’t at its peak.

The NBL25’s Next Stars program is clearly nurturing some of the most exciting young talents in global basketball. As these players continue to develop and shine on both local and international stages, basketball fans worldwide have plenty to look forward to.
