Indiana men’s basketball has made a significant addition to their roster by securing a commitment from Oumar Ballo, a formidable presence in college basketball.

THREE POINTER:

  • Oumar Ballo commits to Indiana Hoosiers.
  • Ranked No. 1 in transfer portal, previously at Arizona.
  • Averages 12.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 65.8% shooting.

A Major Coup for the Hoosiers

On Tuesday, the Hoosiers announced the acquisition of 7-foot, 260-pound center Oumar Ballo. Ballo, who has made a name for himself as a dominant force in the paint, was a first-team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Defensive team selection at the University of Arizona. His performance has not only made him a standout player but also earned him the top spot in the transfer portal rankings by 247sports.

Originally from Koulikoro, Mali, Ballo began his collegiate journey at Gonzaga University. After transferring to Arizona, he has consistently improved, starting all games over the past two seasons and boasting an impressive average of 13.5 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. His performance in the 2023-24 season was particularly noteworthy, with an average of 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game and a shooting accuracy of 65.8 percent from the field.

“Oumar Ballo’s commitment to Indiana is a game-changer for the Hoosiers,” stated Joe Tipton from On3 Sports. “His presence in the paint and rebounding prowess will be key for Indiana’s strategy moving forward.”

Looking Ahead

With Ballo’s arrival, Indiana aims to fill the gap left by 7-foot center Kel’el Ware, who declared for the draft earlier this year. Ballo is expected to be a central figure in the Hoosiers’ lineup, bringing experience and a proven track record to the team.

Ballo is the second high-profile transfer to Indiana this spring, following Myles Rice from Washington State University. As the team gears up for the upcoming season, follow reporters Will Foley, Matt Press, and columnist Daniel Flick for the latest updates on Indiana men’s basketball.
